Our Mission

Thank you, Theresina, for being my girl even if it was only for 4-1/2 yrs. We will continue to help those that others feel are not worthy. You were Perfect in your own way and I miss being your human.

October 28, 2020 - Nine years ago today my life as a dog owner changed forever. Theresina was the most difficult dog and most loving dog that has ever graced my life. My heart still hurts today and I miss you all the time. Theresina is why I started Perfect Imperfections. She tried so hard to be the perfect girl but sadly her neurological issues were too much. We tried behavioral training, specialists, medication, and I really thought if I loved her enough I could fix her. The hard reality was she couldn’t be fixed so we loved her just as she was for as long as we could.

Perfect Imperfections is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue based in Watertown, Connecticut. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs with disabilities and to educate people about living with a dog with disability.

We take in and care for dogs who are blind, deaf, amputees, and paralyzed; as well as dogs that have rare, debilitating conditions like Megaesophagus and Cerebellar hypoplasia. When they are ready, we find loving, forever homes for as many of these dogs as we can.

Our veterinary, physical therapy, durable medical equipment (e.g., wheeliecarts), and rescue transportation costs are much, much higher than a typical animal rescue nonprofit. For this reason, we can only handle a limited number of dogs at a time, and sadly we have to turn away 1-3 dogs every single day.

Any donation that you can make, no matter how small, is very valuable to us and greatly appreciated. There are many ways to support our work — we also have wish lists on Amazon and Chewy, and even sharing our social media posts to help us find homes for our special dogs is a big, huge help!

It takes a village, and we cannot do this without you. Every dog deserves a home. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for all of your help.
